SPRING 2020 STUDIO OFFERING
WE WON!! GT School of Architecture Wins First Prize in the HERE AND NOW: HOUSING FOR THE 21ST CENTURY International Housing Competition
This year, over 400 entries participants submitted work to HERE+NOW: A House for the 21st Century, an international student design competition administered by the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) and sponsored by American Institute of Architecture (AIA) and Custom Residential Architects Network (CRAN®). Of the 400 participants, Georgia Tech School of Architecture students, Kang Song (’19), Dan Lu (’19), Raunak Tibrewala (’19), were awarded first prize.
The project titled, “ANOTHER LIFE—Sustaining Iceland’s Family Fishing Economy” looked at the impact of climate change on the fishing industry in Iceland. With an economic imbalance spurred by a shrinking supply of fisheries and a growing tourism industry, Song, Lu, and Tibrewala addressed both matters by designing a hotel and a house. Read more here

The Problem
Affordable, energy efficient housing is one of the most pressing issues facing major metropolitan areas today, and as Atlanta leads the nation in income inequality, there are few challenges more important. Our goal is to expand 21st housing options to meet the needs of changing urban demographics, sustainability targets and alternative energy requirements, all through smartly researched and elegantly designed housing and public space solutions.
EXHIBITION OPENING AT THE NATIONAL BUILDING MUSEUM: GT Design + Research on Housing included in the MAKING ROOM exhibition
"As a concept, Making Room is already inspiring a new generation of architects. At the Georgia Institute of Technology’s School of Architecture, for example, Professor Michael Gamble leads a design and research studio focused on zero energy housing. Since the fall of 2013, graduate students in the studio have been challenged to design sustainable residences that also accommodate Atlanta’s changing demographics."
